Why Tyler Lockett Will Be Awesome This Year

Another type of player who will be motivated to produce a career year is the veteran threatened by the new hotshot rookie. It happens all over the league every year. This year it’s happening to Seahawks WR Tyler Lockett thanks to this guy:

He was the highest-drafted WR this year and that draft capital gives him a shortcut to instant playing time. Tyler Lockett will turn 31 this year right after the season begins. Not a lot of NFL players get better after age 30, but Lockett will, and here’s why:

Over the last five years, Tyler Lockett has scored between 8 and 10 touchdowns each year. In four of those five years, he had over 1000 yards receiving. Every year of his career he has played 16 games. Tyler Lockett, consistency is thy name. Players like Lockett are rare. So why won’t he be consistent this year? Because he won’t be worse than those consistent numbers. He will be better.

He knows JSN was drafted because he’s getting older. The team is smartly preparing for the inevitable. He knows people are whispering that JSN will cut into his productivity. He hasn’t been consistent by accident. He created that consistency. Like any proud veteran, he is going to ball out this year for two reasons: 1. He’s still good and he’s not ready to give that job up, and 2. He’s classy enough that he’ll teach JSN to how take his place when JSN is ready to ascend.

Because of Jaxon Smith Njigba, Tyler Lockett is going later in drafts than he ever has. Take the discount and enjoy the best WR3 in the league this year.
